Tom Guans Baldur1

So sitting at Iron Moot and we talked about what Tom Guan had learnt at the Iron Moot and his answer was throw jank. So we started talking about it and he said in a defeated tone. "Circle does not have any good throwing jank, we can just throw the snake same as everyone else". It was almost too good of a set up. A personal affront. Circle have the best jank. Of course they have a throwing jank. So out came the Baldur1 list.

My first list I showed him was utter crap. It has since been deleted from the internet and everyones memory but it got the spark flowing. Then you could see the machine behind Tom Guans eyes start to work. Out came this list.

(Baldur 1) Baldur the Stonecleaver [+31]
 - Ghetorix [21]
 - Feral Warpwolf [18]
 - Feral Warpwolf [18]
 - Shadowhorn Satyr [12]
 - Shadowhorn Satyr [12]
 - Gorax Rager [7]
Sentry Stone & Mannikins [5]
Sentry Stone & Mannikins [5]
Shifting Stones [3]
Lanyssa Ryssyl, Nyss Sorceress [3]
Swamp Gobbers Bellows Crew [2]

Using the Sentry Stones and rapid growth as a way to delay one turn extra is just a thing of beauty that I had not built into my first build with Baldur1. The goal of the list is to deliver a Stone Skin and Primaled Ghetorix to the opponents caster top of two or three.

Walk Through

So the throw jank. This is same as all other throw janks. Just different models and delivery systems. Here you see me proxy basing the forests before I do em. To just check out where stuff is supposed to deploy.

Baldur1 puts up solid ground, forest and stone skin on Ghetorix. Then he charges forward on a bit of an angle so he does not go into forest. Ghetto run into the forest. If opponent can shoot a ghetto in the forest then you need to stand behind the forest. It does not really matter for our end position since the limit is not how long ferals throw it's how far the shadow horn can walk, jump and then throw.

So my imaginary opponent walks his caster out of  his deployment zone. Like the noob he is ;)

So it's go time. Feral red warp strength, primal and throw ghetto forward. The other feral goes and does the same. This time targeting a mannikin I have ran into position to stop ghetto from flying to far. Then Baldur gets ported by stones and primal both Ghetorix and a Shadowhorn and spends his last fury healing Ghetorix if he took damage. Gorax primals the other Shadowhorn. Then both Shadowhorn walk up, jump and throw ghetto. They are at a bit of a disadvantage strength wise that is why we need 2 of them to make it a sure thing that we succeed with the throw. Ghetorix is str 15 and they are 12. So 2d6 winning on ties vs d6+3. Is about 62% chance to win. So good to have another try if you fail.

You deliver a mat 9 pow 21 Gheotrix, with murderous or pow 23 depending on what you warp With 5 attacks Ghetorix should kill all casters in the game.

So lets talk threat ranges. The real limiter in this list is the shadowhorns and Baldur1. Shadowhorns walk 6 jump 5" then have 1" reach and throw big base, 2" with str 10+2=6", and then Ghetorix have reach 2". So total is 22" away from shadow horns.
Baldur1 is ported 8" and have a 12" control area. With a big base and reach. So total from him is 24".

Stay out of it or place Large base models in the way.  So now you know what is coming and you can deal with it when it comes :D

  1. Nice project.
I came up with an idea to make some twist on it.
If you play with 2 set of stones and use them to port Baldur at end of turn1 and at the beginning of turn2, you can have him around line 28".
    Like this:

Turn1: every beast run up to line 19" approximately. Baldur walks inside stones one (line 12") casts forest (covering from 20" to 24"), solid ground and camps 2. Stones 1 port him behind the forest around line 20". Stones 2 port around him (you can also stealth a couple of them in the forest if you want to).

Turn2: Stones 2 port Baldur around line 28", he now can buff you Gheto when in the final position. Your beasts start throwing Gheto around. Since it's only str11 you have very good rolls on it and can try multiple times. When it's in the final spot, activate Baldur. He upkept just solid ground so he can cast primal, stone skin and heal 1. Proceed with Gheto on enemy warcaster's face.

In this version you don't need a gorax, since your feral will provide you Primal, and can spam goats for more chances and rolls.
If you really want to go extreme, this is what ends up:
